week 2- "Snowmen"

Wednesday Jan 23rd

Our morning began with centers:
art center
table with food & dishes
play dough
book tent

The boys started at the Playdough center. I recommend keeping your playdough in the fridge. I'd kept ours in the cupboard, but it had got a bit too gooey. After a few minutes, the playdough was too messy even for Riley & Carsten. :) So off to the bathroom we went to clean up.

They then spent most of the center time at the Food center. Both boys suprised me with how many of the plastic food they recognized. Together, they would choose a piece of food, tell me what it was, and then they'd pretend to eat it.

Riley & Anneclaire enjoyed the art center for a while. Carsten prefered to tell me what to draw on the paper.

All three spent time in the book tent. Riley enjoyed Eric Carle's Do you want to be my friend, as Carsten read the Cake book with the snowmen recipe for our project.

Project Time: Making edible snomen

After reading the Cake book, I showed the boys the snowmen recipe that we would be making. Once again they were great being patient, waiting their turn to help measure and watch the mixer go 'round. They especially enjoyed adding sprinkles & chocolate chips on their snowmen. I think their favorite part was licking the bowl & beaters. :)

Recipe: (basic whip cream for pies)

1 cup heavy cream

1 tbs raw sugar

1 tsp vanilla

chocolate chips, sprinkles, & other fun edible decoratives

whip until firm, spoon onto cookie sheets covered in foil, add sprinkles & chocolate chips

(i think I should have let them ship a bit longer :))

Train time: trains went smoother this week. The boys were more patient with eachother & more aware of one another.

cleaning up :)
Instead of braving the cold for outdoor time, the boys ran up and down the halways with the dumptrucks. It made me tired just watching them :)

Other highlights:
During Carpet Time, both boys sang and moved. Riley felt more comfortable this week and loved joining in with Anneclaire, copying the figures in the dance book.

Some ASL signs were introduced: dance, jump & spin. The kids practiced making the signs and the movements.

Riley & Anneclaire enjoyed the letters on the fridge.

During snack, Carsten felt it was very important that we all know that his juice was "cold".
